SHELF LIFE OF TABLE EGGS

 Overtime, there's been so much questions about how long table eggs can stay fresh?

Well, let's know what's table egg?

Table eggs are eggs meant for consumption (the one you can buy at the grocery & make delicacies with)

Table eggs can last as long as six weeks to eight weeks, though can still be edible but no longer fresh as it's expected to be.

Ideally, eggs collected from the pen immediately laid by the hens can remain fresh for as long as 3 weeks.

However, just how long your fresh eggs last will depend on how they are stored and if they have been washed.

In the United States and certain other countries, including Australia, Japan, Sweden, and the Netherlands, eggs require refrigeration. This is because eggs in these countries are washed and sanitized soon after they are laid in an attempt to prevent contamination with Salmonella, the bacteria often responsible for food poisoning from poultry products. Yet in addition to removing bacteria, washing an egg may damage its naturally protective cuticle. This can make it easier for bacteria to move through the shell and contaminate the egg.

The presence of bacteria inside an egg is what eventually causes it to “go bad,” or rot.

However, keeping an egg at refrigerator temperatures (below 40°F, or 4°C) slows the growth of bacteria and helps prevent it from penetrating the shell.

For table eggs to last longer, do the following;

i. Store in a well ventilated area

ii. Remove cracked eggs to avoid rodents & flies from laying their eggs which encourages rottenness.

iii. In the grocery, do not allow what to touch the egg or the area they're packed.

iv. Store in the freezer (unshelled)

We're are currently running an experiment on the shelf life of table eggs and will make results available once we're done.
