Pig Fattening

 Pig fattening is a special area in pig farming but most times are not seeing as a unit that deserves attention.

Farmers feed both the pigs meant for Breeding & Slaughter same kind of food and this increases the cost of production.

The management practices for slaughter pigs should be entirely different from other stocks. 

A successful pre-fattening period is necessary to achieve a higher percentage of lean meat and uniform carcasses at marketing.

The main objective of farmers in this phase is to achieve a good feed/kg of meat conversion rate, given that the cost of feed in this phase is the main production cost.

To do this, it is paramount to achieve the optimal rate of growth and limit feed wastage to the minimum. Hygiene and disinfection of the facilities is another of the challenges in this phase, since maintaining the ideal conditions ensures proper health standards and prevents production and financial losses.

ABUKE/IYAYA OKUKO (FRIZZLE CHICKEN): IGBO TRADITIONAL CHICKEN

Frizzle chicken should have an African origin especially among the Igbo/Ibo tribe in the southeastern part of Nigeria due to it's  use by the African traditional religion worshippers or native doctors. In Igbo land, due to the dialect differences in the Igbo language, so also does the local name of Frizzle chicken differs but has one meaning.
