Like every other livestock, grasscutters are also affected by a number of diseases which to an extent leads to a greater economic loss on the farmer.
The following are common diseases affecting grasscutters;

1. Coccidiosis:
This disease is caused by protozoa of the Eimeria family.
 SYMPTOMS
 • Bloody diarrhoea,
• Loss of appetite,
• weaknesses and isolation
PREVENTION
• Adhere to strict biosecurity
• Maintain adequate hygiene
• Avoid contact with wet litter
TREATMENT
• Isolate sick ones
• Use coccidiostat in their water

2. Enterotoxaemia:
This is a bacterial disease caused by the bacterium,Clostridium perfringes.
SYMPTOMS
The signs of the disease is the paralysis and pedaling of the hind legs.
PREVENTION
• Vaccination and
• keep the environment clean

3. Staphylococeamia:
This disease is caused by the bacterium- Staphylococcus aureus. 
 SYMPTOMS
• Discharge from the nostrils and vagina.
• Cough
PREVENTION
• Avoid exposure to cold
• Avoid exposure to smoke
TREATMENT
• Use LA antibiotics

PARASITES OF GRASSCUTTER.
Parasites( both endo and ecto)are a major challenge in Grasscutter farming.
Parasites infestation comes from the feeding of:
• Wet contaminated grass and foliage of sugarcane.
• Damp litter/beddings

PREVENTION
• Change litter regularly
 • Avoid feeding of wet forage

TREATMENT
• Regular deworming should be carried out to get rid of worms.
• Dipping in acaricide

Grasscutter Pneumonia
Pneumonia is caused by the bacterium Diplococus pneumonate and it is a common occurence during cold weather. Always ensure warmth in the Grasscutter housing.

From the above, one would see that preventing these diseases will be effective with proper hygiene behavior on the farm.
