BIOSECURITY

Foot dip

Biosecurity refers to the life protection measures that must be carried out to prevent disease outbreak. It can equally mean an overall system of protecting animals from infectious diseases.
The biosecurity measures that are necessary to be taken on your farms are as follows:

i. Foot baths should be constructed at the entrance of each pen and they should regularly filled with disinfectant.
ii. Farm compound must be fenced to restrict predators and unauthorized entry into the farm.
iii. Restriction of visitors into pens.
iv. Cleaning and disinfection of pens at the end of every production cycles.
v. Regular health check to know the health status of the birds
vi. Vaccination and medication of poultry birds at appropriate time
vii. Safe handling and disposal of dead birds
viii. Control of rodent and insects because they are disease vectors
ix. Culling of undesirable birds in the stock
x. Procurement of replacement stock from reputable disease-free sources
.  Every commercial/backyard chicken keeper will approach biosecurity differently based on personal risk tolerances, but implementing even the most basic biosecurity measures significantly limits potential health threats to a flock.
